Hare Krishna, I am Bhakti, a graphic artist who loves to paint deities. The beautiful part of painting deities is that I have the opportunity to meditate on the divine while creating. During the process, I start by removing all the old paint, then bathe the deities and lightly polish them with lemon and tilak powder. I begin painting with the lotus base, feet, body, hands, hair, and finally the eyes. After waiting for all the paint to fully dry, I apply varnish to protect the artwork.
How much time does it typically take for deities to be ready?
For metal deities, I use enamel oil paint, which takes longer to dry than acrylic paint. I recommend allowing 4 days to a week for the work to be completed. For other deities like Jagannath, Baladeva, and Subhadra, I use acrylic paint, which could also take a week or more due to the intricacy and decoration of the artwork
